Clipsham

UK Limestone

Clipsham limestone is quarried near Grantham, Lincolnshire and is a coarse grained and somewhat oolitic and among the clastic are very small pebbles and large shell fragments.

When dry, the colour of Clipsham limestone may vary between pale cream and buff. The ground colour of the stone from the old quarry is buff but there are small patches of a light brown colour.

The natural features of Clipsham limestone make it a popular stone aesthetically and technically for new builds as well as historic buildings.  Many Oxford and Cambridge colleges and public builds are testament to the attractiveness of Clipsham.

Clipsham is also used extensively in landscape projects due to its complementary colouring to many garden schemes and its technical ability in being able to withstand frosts which is unusual for limestones.
